March 18, 2026-Emporia State women's tennis fell 6-1 to #46 Tampa in their second straight dual with a nationally ranked opponent at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
 
DOUBLES
The Spartans won 6-3 at #2 doubles before Giulia Russu and Ana Fatjo Coll evened things for Emporia State with a 6-4 win at #3.  The deciding doubles match went to a tiebreaker with the Hornets Yuli Klimova and Carla Paul Piquer falling 7-6 (7-5) to give Tampa the 1-0 lead.
 
SINGLES
Emporia State took two of the singles matches to a third set tiebreaker.  Paul Piquer won 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) at #3 singles for the Hornets only point. Sheriden Wichman split 6-1 decisions before Tampa's Alexandra Chebli took a 10-5 win in the third set tiebreaker.

The Hornets will travel to Lakeland, Fla. on Friday to wrap up their Spring Break trip at #11 Florida Southern.  It will be the third straight nationally ranked opponent for the Hornets. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. (ET) from the Wynee Warden Tennis Center on the Florida Southern campus
