Emporia State kept the Gorillas from taking the lead as three points by
Olafur Styrmisson followed by a
Chris Harris triple at the 3:04 mark restored the six-point advantage. Emporia State missed their next two field goals as the Gorillas closed the gap in half heading into the final minute, before a layup by
Trey Redd put the Hornets ahead 80-75 with 40 seconds left. The five-point margin was short lived, as the Gorillas converted from deep, their 13th of the game to close the gap to 80-78 with 31 seconds remaining.
The Gorillas fouled
Trey Redd on the ensuing possession, but he missed the front end of the bonus. Pittsburg State drove the lane but was turned back by
Chris Harris.

The Gorillas got a look in the corner, but it missed long, and the ball was secured by Styrmisson. The Hornets were unable to convert either free throw, and the long range heave was off the mark as Emporia State picked up the 81-78 win.
