Emporia State falls 93-73; Weigus scores 24 to lead the Hornets

February 7, 2026 – The Emporia State men struggled to contain the Missouri Southern offense throughout the game, eventually falling 93-73 as the Lions shot north of 60% for the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a miss on the first shot by the Lions, Missouri Southern converted on their next six as Emporia State fell behind 15-4 by the 16:30 mark.

The Hornets were only able to close the gap to as little as seven points before the visiting Lions gradually increased their advantage as the half went on, leading by as much as 18 in the first half. Despite shooting 13-29 in the first half, Emporia State trailed 50-33 at the break due to a blistering 19-30 from the floor by Missouri Southern.

Following the break, Emporia State was struggling to find their footing on offense, as the lead for the Lions swelled to 65-40 at the 12:43 mark, the largest lead of the game. The next basket for the Hornets came from Jack Weigus, his first two points of the half, which promptly lit the freshman on fire.

Weigus drained seven of his next eight shot attempts, including three triples as he scored 18 points in 5:11 of game time to help the Hornets cut the deficit to 72-60.

Emporia State was unable to trim the deficit any further over the final seven minutes as Missouri Southern eventually pulled away as the Lions beat the Hornets 93-73.
