September 6, 2025 – Emporia State volleyball rallied from losing the first set to defeat Northwest Nazarene 3-1 on Saturday to wrap up the San Diego Invite.
SET ONE
The Hornets led for most of the first set, eventually forcing a second timeout by the Nighthawks with Emporia State leading 17-13. Northwest Nazarene rallied after the timeout for five of the next six points to pull even at 18-18, but the Hornets went back ahead 23-20. The Nighthawks eventually withstood a pair of set points for the Hornets on their way to a 28-26 win.
SET TWO
Emporia State took control early in the second frame, scoring the first seven points to force a Nighthawk timeout, and after the Hornets built a 10-1 lead, their largest of the match, Northwest Nazarene rallied to pull within three points before the Hornets maintained their advantage to seal a 25-22 win in the second.
SET THREE
The Hornets got off to a similar start in the third, scoring seven of the first eight points of the frame. However, Emporia State did not allow the Nighthawks back into the set, leading by as much as nine on multiple occasions on their way to a 25-17 set three win.
SET FOUR
The fourth set saw multiple lead changes early on, with Emporia State leading 13-10 at the halfway point. After the Hornets pulled further ahead to make the score 17-12, Northwest Nazarene rallied to cut the advantage to 20-18 before the Hornets closed out the set and the match on a 5-1 scoring run to take down the Nighthawks in four sets.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Nyia Anderson and Delainee both reached double-digits with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Five more Hornets tallied four or more kills including
Camilla Ossola with nine of her own. Dexter also added 15 assists, nine digs and seven block assists in the match.
Brailee Bogle had 24 assists with nine digs of her own and
Boglarka Rady had a team-high 20 digs. At the net, Brooklyn Weaver tallied 12 block assists, while
Lavra Krizanic and
Camilla Ossola had the two solo blocks for the Hornets.

Emporia State will be back in action on Friday, September 12 at the Washburn Invitational for two matches against Newman and Truman State.
