September 12, 2025 – Emporia State volleyball swept through the first day of the Washburn Invitational with three-set wins over Newman and Truman State on Friday in Topeka.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Strong hitting in the first set which led to a 25-10 win in the opening frame only improved as the match went only improved over the three sets on Friday morning.
Emporia State scored the first three points of the match and only built on their advantage, eventually leading 17-9. After a final point by the Jets, the Hornets rattled off eight straight points to seal set one. Emporia State hit .333 in the first set.
Set two saw the Hornets trail 22-18 despite a strong frame in the attack. Emporia State promptly rallied, scoring seven of the final eight to win the set 25-23 behind .345 hitting.
In the third, Emporia State controlled most of the set on their way to a 25-17 win to seal the sweep over the Jets. In the frame, the Hornets hit .563 with just one error.

Nyia Anderson hit .364 and tallied ten kills to lead the way.
Delainee Dexter and
Brailee Bogle tallied 18 and 17 assists respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets continued their success in attack from the first match of the day, as they posted a hitting percentage north of .300 in all three frames against the Bulldogs.
Emporia State led for the entirety of set one, on their way to a 25-21 win, but fell behind early in both the second and third sets before rallying back to clinch the sweep.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Mia Frisbie dominated in the middle, hitting .727 with nine kills plus one solo block and two block assists.
Emma Klett had eight kills while
Camilla Ossola and
Delainee Dexter each tallied seven of their own.
Brailee Bogle had 22 assists and Dexter added 11 in the match.
Emporia State will be back in action on Saturday at the Washburn Invitational with matches against MSU-Moorhead and William Jewell. The first match of the day against the Dragons is scheduled for 8:00 a.m.
