Emporia State Volleyball Falls in Five Against CSU-San Bernardino

Hornets dropped back-and-forth battle on Friday against Coyotes

September 5, 2025 – Emporia State volleyball fell in five sets on Friday afternoon against (RV) Cal State-San Bernardino in the second match of the San Diego Invite.
 
SET ONE
The Coyotes jumped ahead 5-2 early in the first set, and after a brief rally by the Hornets to tie the set 6-6, Cal State-San Bernardino retook the lead and remained in front throughout the set. Set one went to CSUSB 25-18.
 
SET TWO
Emporia State bounced back in the second frame, starting the set on an 8-2 scoring run which included three service aces and a kill by Camilla Ossola. The Coyotes pulled level at 12-12, but the Hornets responded, scoring ten of the next twelve points to lead 22-14 on their way to a 25-17 set two win.
 
SET THREE
Following four of the first five points to begin the third by CSUSB, Emporia State regained some momentum, eventually finding their way in front with a 17-16 lead. The Coyotes answered with four straight to take a 20-17 advantage over the Hornets. Emporia State pulled back level at 22-22 and the Hornets and Coyotes proceeded to trade points before Emporia State eventually came out on top with a 28-26 set three win to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
SET FOUR
CSUSB took an early lead in the set, with Emporia State responding to eventually hold a 17-14 advantage. The Hornets were unable to hold off the Coyotes in late parts of set four, as CSUSB rallied to take the set 25-22 and force a fifth frame.
 
SET FIVE
Emporia State got out on the front foot in set five, as they lead CSUSB 6-3 and then 8-7 as the teams switched sides. The Hornets were unable to hold off the Coyotes, as CSUSB rallied to eventually take set five 15-12.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Nyia Anderson led the Hornets with 14 kills while Delainee Dexter and Camilla Ossola each tallied eight of their own. Brailee Bogle tallied 29 assists and had nine digs, while Boglarka Rady had a team-high 16 digs on defense. At the net, Brooklyn Weaver had one solo block and ten assists while Dexter added nine block assists.
 
UP NEXT
Emporia State will wrap up the San Diego Invite on Saturday, September 6 as they take on Northwest Nazarene. First serve between the Hornets and Nighthawks is set for 10:30 a.m (PT).
