Three in a Row For Emporia State Soccer With 2-0 Win at UCO

Hornet soccer in first place after first weekend of MIAA play

September 28, 2025-Emporia State scored multiple goals for the third straight match as the Hornets shutout Central Oklahoma 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in Edmond, Okla.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first half Emporia State broke through in the 61st minute. Hailey Gancarz pulled the defense to her and sent the ball back to Mikhaela Goen who snuck a shot from 25 yards out under the bar for a 1-0 Hornet lead.
In the 83rd minute Abby Bachman's throw in found Sammy Quiroz down the left sideline. She fed Ella Favot in the middle of the box and she blasted a shot past the diving Broncho keeper to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State out shot Central Oklahoma 12-5 in the match with nine shots coming in the second half.  The Hornets also had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks in the 90 minutes. Mackenzi Goen returned to goal after missing the last two matches and had five saves on the way to recording her first shut out of the season and tenth of her career.
 
WHAT IT MEANS
Emporia State is all alone in first place after the first weekend of MIAA action with six points following their two wins this weekend.
 
UP NEXT
The Hornets return to the ESU Pitch on Sunday, October 5 as they play host to Fort Hays State. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
