October 5, 2025 – Emporia State soccer used three second-half goals on their way to a 5-2 home win against Fort Hays State on Sunday from the ESU Pitch.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emporia State got the scoring started quickly, as
Megan Kephart scored in the fifth minute on an assist by
Ella Favot. The Hornets held their advantage until the 40th minute when the Tigers got a goal by Sydney Cotter to tie the match. In the final minute of the first half,
Hailey Gancarz scored at the 44:09 mark, before Cotter scored her second just 12 seconds later as the Hornets and Tigers entered the halftime break tied 2-2 following the flurry of goals.
Following the break, another quick goal by the Hornets was scored by
Avery Zimmerman after just three minutes of play. Emporia State maintained their advantage for the remainder of the match, getting two more goals in the final 12 minutes as
Ella Favot and
Sammy Quiroz found the back of the next.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State outshot Fort Hays State 14-9 in the match with an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Ella Favot's 79th minute goal is the fourth consecutive match with a goal by the freshman.
Megan Kephart,
Hailey Gancarz and

Sammy Quiroz scoring the first goal of her career.

The five goals for Emporia State mark the first five-goal match for the Hornets since 9/22/23 against Nebraska-Kearney.
The 3-0 start to MIAA action marks the first three-match unbeaten start to conference play since 2022 and the first 3-0 start since the 2021 season.
