Emporia State Sweeps #24 Missouri Western on Friday in White Auditorium

Hornets win MIAA opener and extend winning streak to ten matches

September 26, 2025-The Emporia State volleyball team picked up their first win over a Top 25 opponent since 2019 with a 3-0 victory over Missouri Western in front of a raucous crowd of 517 in White Auditorium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets fell behind 5-1 to start the match but answered with a 5-1 run of their own to get tie things up at 6-6.  There would be eight ties and three lead changes the rest of the way. Emporia State closed the set on a 5-2 run with Brailee Bogle setting Delainee Dexter for the final kill in the 25-23 win.
The second set was tight through the first 16 points before the Hornets scored four straight to take a 12-8 lead. A 6-0 run gave Emporia State a 23-15 lead.  Brooklynn Weaver and Lavra Krizanic combined on a block of Taylor Russell for the final point in the 25-20 win.
The Griffons responded by scoring the first six points of the third set and led 9-5.  The Hornets then had their best run of the night, scoring seven straight points.  Camilla Ossola had two kills during the run and the Hornets got back to back blocks to go up 12-9. Western closed to 17-16 before ESU closed the set on an 8-5 run to complete the sweep.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
As a team the Hornets out hit the Griffons .233 to .122 and had nine total blocks.  Camilla Ossola had 13 kills on .733 hitting while Nyia Anderson added ten kills.  Brailee Bogle and Delainee Dexter finished with 18 and 17 assists respectively.  Boglarka Rady had a career high 21 digs while Mia Frisbie added five block assists.


 
HISTORICAL STUFF
The win was the first victory over a top 25 team since Emporia State defeated then #18 Drury in five sets at the Washburn Invitational on September 6, 2019.
The Hornets have now won ten straight matches, their longest winning streak since winning 13 consecutive in 2009.
The announced attendance of 517 was the largest home crowd for the Hornets since they drew 603 for a match against Washburn on October 16, 2018.
 
UP NEXT
The Hornets are back in action on Saturday night when they play host to Northwest Missouri. First serve inside White Auditorium is set for 7:00 p.m.
