Road Win Opens MIAA Play for Emporia State Soccer

Hornets take down Newman 3-1

September 26, 2025 – A first-half goal from Ella Favot, plus a second from Favot and a follow-up by Megan Kephart in the final ten minutes helped Emporia State pick up a 3-1 road win over Newman on Friday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ella Favot opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, as the Hornets had already opened a 7-1 advantage in shots against the Jets. The Hornets held their 1-0 lead into the halftime break as Emporia State outshot Newman 10-3 in the first half.
 
In the second half, Newman took just five minutes their way back level, as foul in the box by Emporia State allowed a penalty, which was converted by Emma Kolbe to tie the score 1-1.
 
Over the next 25 minutes, the Hornets racked up five more shots, but the match entered the final 15 still tied 1-1. In the 81st minute, Ella Favot broke the deadlock with her second of the day and third of the season on an assist from Megan Kephart. Kephart would seal the deal three minutes later, to help seal the 3-1 win.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State held a sizable advantage in the match, posting a 19-5 advantage in shots. Ella Favot (22', 81') found her way onto the scoresheet for the second consecutive match, and has three goals on the season. Megan Kephart has one goal and one assist, her first goal and third assist of the campaign.

The Hornets will continue their road trip on Sunday, September 28 as the take on Central Oklahoma. Kickoff between Emporia State and the Bronchos is set for 1:00 p.m. in Edmond, Okla.
