MIAA OPENERS ALONG I-35
Emporia State's MIAA slate begins this weekend with matches on the road at Newman and Central Oklahoma.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets traveled to Colorful Colorado for their final nonconference matchups against Regis and CSU-Pueblo. Emporia State fell against the Rangers on Friday 3-1, with Madeline Bracy's second goal of the season being the score for the Hornets. On Sunday, Emporia State controlled the match against the Thunderwolves, allowing just one shot and scoring in each half on goals from Ella Favot and Avery Zimmerman to seal a 2-0 win heading into MIAA action.

ABOUT THE COACHES
Jane Grimley-Gunn
is in year two at Emporia State in 2025 and has a 9-11-3 record with the Hornets.
Dylan Gruntzel
is 4-51-5 in his fourth season at Newman and is 0-3 against the Hornets.
Amel Muhamedagic is 14-9-6 in his second season as the head coach at Central Oklahoma and and is in his 19th year on the Bronchos coaching staff.

TOP GUNN
Jane Grimley-Gunn is in year two at the helm of Hornet Soccer and is 9-11-3. Grimley-Gunn spent the previous two seasons as the head coach for Missouri S&T's women's program. In 2023, the Miners had their longest unbeaten streak to start a season since 1997 and made a trip to the GLVC Tournament for the fourth time in school history. She was 1-0-1 against the MIAA in her two years, defeating Missouri Southern and playing to a 0-0 tie against Washburn. Prior to her time in Rolla, Grimley-Gunn was the associate head coach at her alma mater Goldey-Beacom College for four years. In those four seasons, the Lightning went 48-24-4. She was also named a recipient of the "30 under 30" award by the United Soccer Coaches in 2019.

A LOOK AT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 3-3 on the season, with the Hornets splitting their two matches last weekend on their roadtrip to Colorado. The Hornets fell in the first match of the weekend 3-1 against (RV) Regis on Friday night. Madeline Bracy scored her second goal of the season for the Hornets goal against the Rangers. On Sunday, the Hornets took on CSU-Pueblo and pitched their first shutout of the season, allowing just one shot on target and beating the Thunderwolves 2-0. Emporia State got a first-half goal from Ella Favot, the first of her career, and another in the second half off the foot of Avery Zimmerman.

SCOUTING THE JETS
Newman is 1-4-1 on the season, with the win coming in the first match of the season, a 4-1 win over William Jewell at home. The Jets have scored ten goals in their first six matches, but have struggled defensively, as their opening match against the Cardinals has been the lone time this season Newman has allowed one goal or fewer to the opposition. In the attack, Delphine Dzidzinyo Sosu has five goals, which is currently the second most in the MIAA this season.

SCOUTING THE BRONCHOS
Central Oklahoma is 2-2-2 this season, following a strong slate of nonconference matches in the month of September. The Bronchos opened the season with a 0-0 draw against #3 Minnesota State and have also played against #7 Dallas Baptist. The Bronchos are coming off a pair of wins last week, taking down Southern Nazarene and Southwestern Oklahoma. UCO has managed just six goals in their six matches, with Jordan Tanges scoring two of her own to lead the team. Rebekah George also returns following her 2024 season where she led the Bronchos with ten goals while being named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Year. In goal, Avery Bass has played all 540 minutes after playing in 20 matches and racking up 91 saves as a junior last season.
