September 13, 2025-Emporia State ran their winning streak to five matches with a pair of wins on Saturday at the Washburn Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got off to a great start, fell behind and then rallied for a 25-16, 22-5, 16-25, 25-19, 16-14 win over Minnesota State-Moorhead.
Emporia State jumped out to a 6-1 lead to start the first set and ended it with a 9-3 run.
Brooklynn Weaver and
Emma Klett combined on a block to end the set.
The Dragons scored the first two points of the second set and never trailed in a tightly contested set as Moorhead never took more than a four point lead.
MSU-Moorhead scored the first six points of the third set on the way to a 25-16 win and 2-1 advantage in the match.
It was Emporia State's turn to never trail in the fourth set. The used an 8-1 run to take a 10-4 lead on the way to a 25-19 win to force a fifth set.
The Hornets led 3-1 to start the fifth only to see the Dragons use a 9-3 run to take a 10-6 lead. Emporia State came back to force a tie at 11-11 and Moorhead looked to take a 13-11 lead when an attack by
Delainee Dexter was originally ruled out. After review the call was reversed and ESU tied the set at 12. Another kill by Dexter and an ace from
Boglarka Rady gave ESU a 14-12 lead. The Dragons tied the score at 14 before
Nyia Anderson got back to back kills to give the Hornets the win.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Delainee Dexter turned in her first career triple double with 18 kills on .324 hitting, 21 assists and 12 digs. She was joined in double figures by
Nyia Anderson with 18 kills and
Emma Klett with 12 kills.Â
Brailee Bogle had a team high 33 assists while
Boglarka Rady had 20 digs.

Emporia State cruised to a 3-0 win over William Jewell to complete the weekend sweep of their stay in Topeka.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals scored the first two points but that would be their only lead of the first set as the Hornets used a 10-2 run to take control and ended the set on a 12-1 run.
The second set was similar to the first with William Jewell getting up 2-0 to start the set. With the score tied at 4-4 Emporia State 6-2 run to take a 10-6 lead and would end the set on another 12-1 run.
The third set saw eight ties and four lead changes. It was tied at 18 when Emporia State closed out the match with a 7-2 run.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Every Hornet on the active roster played at least two sets during the match.Â
Delainee Dexter had nine kills on .368 hitting while
Nyia Anderson recorded nine kills on .350 hitting. As a team Emporia State hit .307 and had seven players with multiple kills.
Brailee Bogle had 23 assists while
Boglarka Rady had 11 digs.
ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS
Emporia State had three players on the All-Tournament team as selected by the tourney coaches.Â
Delainee Dexter, Mia Frisbee and
Nyia Anderson were named to the ten person team.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will travel to Edmond, Okla. next weekend to wrap up non-conference play at the MIAA-GAC Crossover hosted by Central Oklahoma. Emporia State's first match will be against East Central (Okla.) on Thursday, September 18 at 1:30 p.m.

NOTES
Dexter's triple double was the first by a Hornet since Yuchen Du had 18 kills, 26 assists and 29 digs in a 3-2 win at then #17 Central Oklahoma on November 3, 2018.
