Emporia State Volleyball Sweeps Thursday Matches at MIAA-GAC Crossover

Hornets take down East Central and Southwestern Oklahoma in three sets

September 18, 2025 - Emporia State volleyball took down both East Central and Southwestern Oklahoma in straight sets on Thursday afternoon in Edmond to push their winning streak to seven games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Emporia State controlled most of the action throughout their three-set win over East Central, hitting .452 in the opening set on their way to a .306 percentage in the match. In addition to hitting north of .300, the Hornets held the Tigers to a negative hitting percentage, forcing 21 errors and allowing just 15 kills.
 
The Hornets took sets one and two 25-12 with ease thanks to early leads in both sets. Set one saw Emporia State jump out to a 9-2 advantage, and the Hornets led by five or more points for the rest of the frame. In set two, the Hornets scored the first six points and never looked back, extended their lead to 2-0 in the match.
 
Set three saw East Central take the first lead, scoring three of the first four points of the set. Emporia State eventually would take the lead but the score remained close midway through set three, with the Hornets leading 13-12. The Hornets did not concede their advantage going forward, as they outscored the Tigers 12-3 to solidify a 25-15 set three win and the sweep in their first match of the weekend.
 
A LOOK AT THE NUMBERS
Emporia State hit .305 in the match with 42 kills and just 12 errors. Delainee Dexter led the way with 10 kills in the match. Dexter added 16 assists while Brailee Bogle had 20 of her own. On defense, Boglarka Rady had 16 digs with Nyia Anderson joining her in double-digits with ten of her own. The Hornets one solo block from Keyshla Rivera and 12 solo blocks as a team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Emporia State jumped out to an early lead in the opening set against the Bulldogs, leading 8-3. Southwestern Oklahoma was able to draw close on multiple occasions in the frame, cutting the Hornet lead to 11-9 and 14-13, but Emporia State would not relinquish their lead throughout, taking set one 25-23.
 
Set two was a back-and-forth battle between the Hornets and Bulldogs, as the second frame featured six lead changes. Emporia State trailed 16-14 midway through the set, before immediately scoring five straight to take a 19-16 lead which forced a Southwestern Oklahoma timeout. The Hornets were able to hold off a late push by the Bulldogs sealing another 25-23 win to move ahead in the match 2-0.
 
The Hornets swarmed the Bulldogs to begin the third, scoring the first seven points and building a 9-1 advantage. Southwestern Oklahoma eventually fought back to close the gap to 16-12, but Emporia State finished strong, sealing a 25-17 third set win to seal the sweep.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
As a team, the Hornets hit .212 but held the Bulldogs to .140 at the net. Delainee Dexter and Lavra Krizanic each tallied ten kills to lead the way. Brailee Bogle notched 21 assists, reaching 20 or more assists for the fourth time this season in a three-set match, while Dexter added 13 of her own. On defense, Mia Frisbie and Brooklyn Weaver each had four block assists while Camilla Ossola added a solo block and three assists of her own.
 
UP NEXT
Emporia State will continue the MIAA-GAC crossover on Friday, September 19 as they travel down the road to Shawnee, Okla. The Hornets will match up with Oklahoma Baptist and Southern Nazarene with the first match scheduled for 12:30 p.m. against the Bison.
