Luke Grace is in first place in the men's decathlon after day one of the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships being held at Welch Stadium and Witten Track. He is one of four Hornets that are in the top eight in the multi-events after day one.
Grace has 3,782 points for a 106 point lead over Fort Hays State's Drew Tolar after five events. He had a personal best of 10.98 in the 100m to finish third and then won the long jump with a mark of 7.11m (23-4) to move into first place overall. He had a mark of 11.48m (37-8) in the shot put to place fourth in that event and then cleared 1.94m (6-4.25) to finish second in the high jump. He finished the day running 51.36 in the 400m to place second and wrap up the day in first place overall.
Jonah Remsberg is fifth overall in the decathlon with 3,529 points. His best place in an individual event was a second place showing at 6.82m (22-4.5) in the long jump while he had a personal best of 1.88m (6-2) in the high jump. The PR in the high jump came despite hitting his head on the standard on an attempt at 1.85m (6-0.75) before clearing it and the next bar.

In the women's heptathlon
Isabel Vikoler is in fourth place with 2,762 points and
Scarlett Begley is in seventh with 2,574 points after the first day.
Vikoler had PRs of 1.54m (5-0.50) in the high jump and 9.15m (30-0.25) in the shot put to highlight her first day. She tied for the best height in the high jump.
Begley's best finish in an event was third place with a time of 26.36 in the 200m.
Competition in the multi-events will resume on Saturday starting with the decathlon 110m hurdles at 10:00 a.m. followed by the heptathlon long jump at 10:30 a.m. Individual events begin with the women's hammer at noon while track events will start at 4:30 p.m. with the women's 100m hurdles.
