May 2, 2025 – Hornet baseball was locked in a back-and-forth battle with the Bearcats on Friday afternoon before Northwest Missouri pulled away in the late innings as Emporia State fell 12-5.
Both teams were kept off the board through the first two innings, before a solo home run by Jacob Selock put the Bearcats ahead 1-0 in the third inning.
TJ Racherbaumer led off the top of the fourth with a double, and following a wild pitch, came in to score on a balk as the Hornets pulled level 1-1.
Following a scoreless bottom of the fourth by Hornet starter
Seth Stover, Emporia State would add to their total, getting RBI from
Logan Myers and
Noah Steele to take a 3-1 advantage. The Bearcats responded in the bottom half, scoring four runs on three hits, with three runs being unearned, as the hosts took a 5-3 lead into the sixth.
Emporia State scored lone runs in the sixth and seventh innings, with
Logan Myers picking up his second RBI in the sixth, and
TJ Racherbaumer hitting his ninth home run of the season to tie the game 5-5 in the seventh.
With his seventh inning homer,
TJ Racherbaumer tied Mike Carlson for seventh in program history with 28 in his career.
Northwest Missouri again responded to the Hornets, scoring three in the seventh and four in the eighth, which included RBI from Ryan Williams, Kaehukai Young and Ashton Neuman to extend the lead back to 12-5.
The Hornets would get just one hit over the final two frames as they fell to the Bearcats on Friday afternoon.
TJ Racherbaumer went 3-5 with a home run and a double while
Sammy Padilla and
Noah Steele each had two hits of their own.
Emporia State and Northwest Missouri will play in the regular season finale on Saturday, May 3 in Maryville, Mo. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
