May 3, 2025 – Emporia State baseball fell 8-5 in the regular season finale on the road Saturday afternoon against Northwest Missouri.
The Bearcats took the upper hand in the first frame, scoring four runs on two hits and an error to hold a 4-0 advantage into the second inning.
Emporia State trimmed the deficit in half in their second at-bat, scoring two runs on three hits, but left two runners stranded in scoring position. In the third, the Hornets would add another run in the third to make the score 4-3.
Following a run for Northwest Missouri in the fourth to restore a two-run advantage, a solo home run by
Dominic Felix in the fifth to again trim the Bearcat lead to one.
The score remained 5-4 until the bottom of the seventh, as Northwest Missouri added two to their total, building a 7-4 advantage. The Hornets would grab a run back in the top of the eighth, as Felix led off the inning with a double and later scored on a sac fly from
Sammy Padilla to make the score 7-5.
After the Bearcats added a run in the bottom of the eighth, Emporia State was unable to rally in their last at-bat, falling 8-5 on Saturday afternoon.

Brady Unrein all tallied three hits for the Hornets with Felix, Unrein and Padilla all recording an RBI in the game. Emporia State pitchers struck out ten in the game, with
Coby Rogers and
Eli Hernandez both striking out four over 3.0 relief innings.
Emporia State earned the ninth seed in the MIAA Tournament and will be in action on Wednesday, May 7 as they take on the hosts Missouri Southern.
