April 12, 2025-Emporia State was swept on Saturday by Missouri Western, falling 4-2 in game one and 2-1 in the second game.

Game One
The Hornets got out to an early lead but the Griffons scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 4-2 win in the matinee.
After missing three games with an injury
Brooke Flewelling put the Hornets n top with a two run double in the top of the first. The Griffons got on the board in the bottom of the second thanks to a double steal that saw Myah Dwyer come home. They tied the game in the bottom of the third on an infield single by Mackenzie Devine. Western took the lead in the fifth when Taylor Jones reached on a fielder's choice and would eventually score on a fielding error to give the Griffs a 3-2 lead. They added an insurance run in the sixth thanks to an RBI double by Ashlyn Finarty. With two outs in the top of the seventh
Avery Brewer doubled to bring the tying run to the plate but would be stranded as the Griffons won 4-2.
Gracie Rabe took the loss despite allowing just four runs, three of them earned, on four hits with four strikeouts.
Game Two
A solo home run proved to be the difference in a pitching duel won by Missouri Western 2-1 in the night cap.
The Griffons scored a run on a walk, stolen base and single in the first inning to go up 1-0. The Hornets tied it in top of the second when
Ally Miller led off with a walk and with two outs would score on
Leslie Ramos single.Â
Jordan Harrison would retire ten straight Griffons until Kennedy Preston hit a two out home run in the fourth inning to put Western up 2-1. She would follow that by retiring seven of the final eight batters she faced. The Hornets would get the tying run on base in the fifth and seventh but could not score. The game ended when the Griffons were able to get a double play on a fly ball to left.
Jordan Harrison allowed two runs on three hits with five strikeouts in the loss.

Emporia State will step out of MIAA play on Wednesday, April 16 when they travel to Drury. First pitch for the double header in Springfield, Mo. is set for 12:00 p.m.Â
