April 16, 2025-On a day that saw the team with the least hits win both games, Emporia State and Drury split a double header in Springfield, Mo. The Hornets won game one 3-1 while the Panthers took the second game 2-1.
Game One
None of the four runs in Emporia State's 3-1 win came in via a hit.
Drury took advantage of lead off triple by Sophia Luetticke followed by a sac fly from Landry Cochran to go up 1-0 in the first inning.
The Hornets answered with two runs in the top of the second to take the lead. After

Jordan Harrison reached on a fielder's choice. A walk to
Haley Garnett and an infield single by
Kinsey Perine loaded the bases with one out.
Taryn Burkhardt hit a grounder to first and Harrison beat the throw home to tie the score at 1-1.
Sydney Wagner plated Garnett on a fielder's choice ground out as ESU took the lead for good.
Emporia State loaded the bases in the top of the third with one out and Garnett hit a sac fly to score
Ally Miller to make it 3-1 and that would be it for the scoring.
Drury would get two on to start the fourth inning, but Harrison got a pop out and two strikeouts to end the threat.
Haley Garnett had a run and an RBI with one walk as the Hornets were out hit 7-4 in the game.
Jordan Harrison went the distance allowing one run on seven hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
Game Two
The Hornets out hit the Panthers 6-4 but left seven runners on base in a 2-1 loss in the nightcap.
Drury scored first again as the first three players reached base. Victoria Garland led off with a single and Brooklyn Lachappa reached on an error off the glove of Garnett at first. Reece Anderson followed with a double that scored Garland but the Hornets were able to get a double play by throwing out Lachappa at home and then getting Anderson into a run down for the second out as she tried to go to third.
In the bottom of the third Sophia Leutticke walked, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. She was then thrown out in a rundown trying to score on a grounder to third by Cochran who was able to get all the way to third on the fielder's choice. AJ Agers then gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead with an RBI ground out.
Emporia State got on the board in the top of the fourth.
Haley Garnett led off with a double and with one out advanced to third on a passed ball.
Kinsey Perine singled through the right side to score Garnett and get the Hornets within a run. Emporia State would get the tying run on base in the seventh with one out but Drury was able to turn a double play to end the game.
Kinsey Perine was two for three with an RBI while
Haley Garnett was one for two with a run scored.
Jayda VanAckeren took the loss, allowing just two runs on four hits in 5.0 innings.
Emporia State will return to MIAA play on Saturday, April 19 when they play host to Newman. First pitch of the Senior Day double header is set for 12 noon with Senior Day activities beginning at 11:40 a.m.
