March 8, 2025-In a pair of top 50 battles the Emporia State men's and women's teams came out on top against Rockhurst. In men's play the #28 Hornets won 6-1 over the #31 Hawks while #50 Emporia State came from behind to defeat #38 Rockhurst 4-3 at the Kossover Family Tennis Center on Saturday.

The #50 Hornets defeated a nationally ranked opponent for the first time under coach
Cyrielle Peyroche in a 4-3 come from behind win over the #38 Hawks.
Sheriden Wichman and
Perla Conde got Emporia State started with a 6-2 win at #3 doubles before the 34
th ranked doubles team of Ella Coleman and Zuzanna Szmyd won 6-3 at #1 to even things up.
Anastasia Pesic and
Yuliya Klimova gave Emporia State a 1-0 lead in the dual with a 6-2 win at #2 doubles.
Coleman, who is ranked #9 nationally in singles, won 6-3, 6-1 at #1 to even things at 1-1. Conde put the Hornets back on top with 6-1, 6-3 win over Szmyd at #3 only to see Sofia Valdespino win 6-7, 7-4, 6-2 over Klimova to make it 2-2. Dani Lentisco won 7-6, 6-4 at #5 to put Rockhurst up 3-2.
Lilie Bizouerne tied things for ESU with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 win at #4 singles.
Paige Stranghoner gave the Hornets a win with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at #6 singles.

Luke West followed by 7-6 (7-3) win by
Alexis Mattenberger and
Gwendal Mazuay at #1 doubles before Rockhurst salvaged a 7-6 (7-3) win at #3 doubles.
Diego Calvo made it 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Josef Truhlar at #3 singles before #44 Louis Keiner defeated
Mostafa Elbasnaly 7-5, 6-1 at #2 to give Rockhurst their only point. In a battle of nationally ranked singles players #33 Sarunic defeated #11 Semyon Tsyrenov 7-5, 6-3 to put the Hornets up 3-1. Mattenberger clinched the dual win for Emporia Sate with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 win over Alex Tikhonov at #4 singles. The Hornets closed out the dual with a 6-2, 6-4 win at #6 by Mazuay and a 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) win by
Duvan Santiago Torres at #5 singles.
The Hornets are back in action on Sunday when they play host to William Jewell in both men's and women's competition. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m. at the Kossover Family Tennis Center.
NOTES:
This is the first time all four teams of a men's and women's dual at the Kossover Family Tennis Center have been nationally ranked, and the first time in school history that both Emporia State teams picked up Top 40 wins on the same day.
