March 9, 2025-The nationally ranked Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams completed a successful weekend with wins over William Jewell on Sunday at the Kossover Family Tennis Center. The #28 Hornet men won 5-2 while the #50 Emporia State women took a 7-0 sweep of the Cardinals.

The Hornets had to come back from a 1-0 deficit after doubles to post the 5-2 victory.Â
Harris Kossover and
Duvan Santiago Torres won 6-1 at #3 doubles before the Cardinals picked up wins at #1 and #2 to take the doubles point.
Diego Calvo won 6-0, 6-0 at #3 to even the dual and
Alexis Mattenberger won by retirement while leading 6-1, 4-3 at #2 to give Emporia State a 2-1 lead. Ugnius Bickauskis won 7-5, 6-3 over ESU's
Mostafa Elbasnaly to tie things at 2-2.Â
Gwendal Mazuay put the Hornets up 3-2 with a 6-2, 6-3 win at #4 before
Roko Kacer clinched the dual with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #6. Santago Torres closed out the competition with a 7-5, 6-3 win at #5 singles.

#50 Emporia State Women 7, William Jewell 0
The 50th ranked Hornet women rolled to a 7-0 win over a short handed William Jewell team.Â
Emporia State started with an advantage in doubles and quickly won the point as
Perla Conde and
Sheriden Wichman won 6-3 at #2 and
Anastasia Pesic and
Yuliya Klimova won 6-1 at #1 doubles.
Wichman gave Emporia State a 3-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #3 singles and Klimova clinched the dual victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #2.Â
Giovanna Ferreira won 6-2, 7-5 at #1, Pesic picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at #4 and
Paige Stranghoner closed out the dual with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #5 singles.

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday, March 11 when they play host to Cowley County CC in exhibition play. First serve from the Kossover Family Tennis Center is set for 1:00 p.m.
