March 29, 2025- Emporia State had a combined 11 provisional qualifiers, seven new top five marks in ESU history, two event champions and five runner-up finishes on Saturday at the ESU Relays. The Hornet men placed second overall and the women fourth over the three day event at Witten Track and Welch Stadium.
The Hornets had four of the top seven finisher in a loaded men's javelin competition that saw the top 11 finishers hit the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark for nationals.
Kole Manley finished second with the third best throw in school history. His toss of 70.21m (230-04) is currently ranked third in NCAA Division II and 15
th in the world in the early outdoor season.
Brooks Lowe finished third with a throw of 66.98m (219-9) that currently ranks sixth in Division II.
Mitch Budke was fifth with a provisional mark of 63.26m (207-6) while
Aidan Hicks threw 62.44m (204-10) to finish in seventh place.
Ty Anderson set a school record and had two provisional qualifiers. He ran a school record 10.17 in the men's 100m, breaking Josh Schuler's previous mark of 10.26 set at the 2011 NCAA Championships, to finish second. It is the 16
th fastest time in the world regardless of wind as of Saturday evening. He also had a provisional qualifier in the long jump, going 7.44m (24-5) to place third.
Emmanuel Dukpe finished second with a time of 47.04 in the men's 400m. It is the fourth best time in Emporia State history and is ranked ninth nationally in Division II as of Saturday night.
Max Neeley cleared a provisional qualifying bar of 4.93m (16-2) to place second in the men's pole vault and moved into third all-time at Emporia State in the event.
Kingsley Bennett joined Anderson with a provisional in the 100m, going 10.37 to tie his own fourth best mark in school history.
Cooper Schroer picked up the only event championship for the Hornet men. He ran 1:54.73 to win the men's 800m
The 400m hurdles was the major highlight for the Emporia State women.
Abigael Reid won the event with a provisional qualifier of 1:01.13 while
Isabella Davie ran 1:04.46 to finish as the runner-up. Reid's time would be the third best in ESU history if she had not run a better time last year at the NCAA Championships.
Mia Manley cleared a provisional qualifying bar of 3.87m (12-8.25) to finish sixth in the women's invitational pole vault. It is the second best mark in Emporia State history.
Emma Bartholome had the other top five mark in Emporia State history. She ran 11:59.52 to place third in the women's 3000m steeplechase. She is just the fifth woman to break 12 minutes in the steeplechase in ESU history.
As a team the Hornet men finished in second place behind Wichita State. The Shockers had 111.5 points while Emporia State finished with 99 points to place one spot in front of Pittsburg State who had 98 points. Washburn was in fourth with 87.50 points. The Emporia State women were in fourth place with 66.50 points. Wichita State won the ESU Relays with 155 points, Pittsburg State was second with 117 and Washburn was third with 79 points.
The Hornets will continue their homestand as they play host to the Midwest Classic on Friday, April 4 at Welch Stadium and Witten Track. The one day meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. with the final event set to start at 7:00 p.m.
NOTES
The ESU Relays produced nine marks that are currently ranked #1 in NCAA Division II.
Dapriest Hogans of Pittsburg State ran the top Division II men's 100m time of 10.14 with a legal wind of 1.1 m/s. That ranks third in the world among legal winds as of Saturday night.
Hogans also ran a D-II leading 20.13 in the men's 200m on Friday night. It ranks third in the world among any wind readings below 4.0 m/s.
Daylin Williams of Pittsburg State ran the top men's 110m hurdle time in Division II at 13.67 with a legal wind of 1.6 m/s that ranks sixth in the world among legal winds as of Saturday night.
Pittsburg State's men's 4x100m relay ran the fastest time in Division II this year with a time of 39.85.
Missouri Southern's Cedric Peterson went 18.23m (59-9.75) for the top spot in Division II in the men's shot put.
Washburn's Ilaria Villa went 51.73m (169-9) in the women's discus for the top mark in Division II as of Saturday night.
Missouri Southern's Keilee Johnson had a throw of 50.12m (164-5) for the top mark in the nation in the women's javelin.
The multi-events on Thursday and Friday produced the top mark in both the heptathlon and the decathlon.
Braxton Stewart of Minnesota State scored 6,742 points for the top Division II mark in the decathlon.
Minnesota State also recorded the best mark in the heptathlon as Miranda Lauvstad scored 5,529 points to lead D2 as of Saturday night.
Missouri Southern's Garrett Strange has the ninth best javelin throw in the world this year with a toss of 71.09m (232-11) while Emporia State's
Kole Manley's 70.21m (230-4) is 15
th in the world.
