Game 1
Emporia State gave up four unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth in a 7-3 loss to Pittsburg State.
The first three Hornets walked to open the game. Cleanup hitter Mallory Moore lifted a sac fly to right to plate Taryn Burkhardt and give Emporia State a 1-0 lead. With two outs and a runner on second in the bottom of the first Kadyn Trochim reached on a throwing error to put runners on the corners.  Amaya Snyder tied the game with a single to right as the teams went to the second tied at 1-1.
Courtney Storey hit a two run homer in the bottom of the third to put Pittsburg State up 3-1.  The Hornets responded with two of their own in the top of the fourth. With one out Brooke Flewelling homered to right field to start the scoring. Kinsey Perine was hit by a pitch and went from first to third on a ground out by Haley Garnett. Perine then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3. Walks to Burkhardt and Julianna De Luna around Sydney Wagner reaching on an error loaded the bases and forced a Pitt State pitching change. Moore sent a ball to the warning track against Chelsea Beville but could not overcome a strong wind blowing in.
The bottom of the fifth started with Kendall Forbes reaching base and going to second on an error. Heather Arnett then singled through the left side and Forbes scored on a throwing error to put the Gorillas up 4-3.  Alleyna Rushing followed with an RBI triple and came home on a sac bunt by Storey as Pitt State went up 6-3. After a flyout Snyder singled and Jayda VanAckeren came on in relief of Gracie Rabe for Emporia State. Kyleigh Lamont doubled to right to score Snyder but was thrown out trying to go to third as the Gorillas took a 7-3 lead into the sixth.
The Hornets got their first two batters on to start the seventh with Wagner reaching on an error and De Luna walking, but would not be able score as the Gorillas took game one 7-3.
