March 2, 2025-The Emporia State men finished fifth and the Hornet women 11
th at the MIA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Hornets came away from Sunday's action with six provisional qualifiers and four top five qualifiers.
Connor Deters came in third in the men's shot put and
Israel Domeh was third in the 200m for the top individual finishes for Emporia State on Sunday.
Deters became just the fourth Hornet male to go over 57 feet in the shot put. His mark of 17.38m (57-0.25) was good for third in the MIAA and ranks 20
th in the nation.
Antonio Cooper also placed in the shot put, going 15.77m (51-9.00) to place seventh.
Domeh ran a provisional qualifier of 21.32 in the men's 200m final to place third after running a 21.26 in the prelims. It is the third best time in Emporia State history and ranks 26
th in the nation.
Emmanuel Dukpe placed fifth in the men's 400m with the second fastest time in Hornet history. His time of 47.44 is currently ranked 24
th in the nation.
Domeh and Dukpe joined with
Isaac Tarango and
Braden Lipgens to run 3:12.36 to place fourth in the men's 4x400m relay with the fourth best mark in Emporia State history.
Ty Anderson placed eighth with a provisional qualifying time of 6.75 in the men's 60m finals. He set a school record in the prelims with a time of 6.68 that ranks 11
th in the nation.
Max Neeley continued to clear 16 feet, hitting 4.88m (16-0.00) to place sixth in the men's pole vault.
Cooper Schroer turned in the fifth fastest time for the Hornets when he place sixth with a 1:52.54 in the men's 800m.
Lipgens ran 1:11.48 to place fourth in the 600 yard run.
The quartet of
Abigael Reid,
Barbara Bentum,
Mason Bina, and
Isabella Davie ran a season's best 3:55.98 to place sixth in the women's 4x400m relay team
The next action for the Hornets is the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships on March 13-15 at the Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Ind. Emporia State has 19 provisional qualifiers on the season with five of them ranked in the top 20 nationally.
