March 19, 2025-Emporia State ended their trip to Florida with a pair of losses on Wednesday. The now #23 Hornet men fell 4-1 to #22 Florida Southern at the USTA National Campus in Orlando while the Emporia State women lost 5-2 to Texas A&M-Kingsville at the Racquet Club of Cocoa Beach.

The Hornet women fell 5-2 to the Javelinas in Cocoa Beach.
Paige Stranghoner and
Sheriden Wichman gave Emporia State a win at #3 doubles with a 6-4 victory.
Perla Conde won 6-2, 6-3 at #3 singles to make the score 3-1 before the Javelinas clinched with a win at #2 singles.
Sheriden Wichman gave the Hornets their other point with a 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (13-11) win at #5 singles. She came back from down 8-5 at one point in the third set tiebreaker.
#22 Florida Southern Men 4, #23 Emporia State 1
In another Top 25 showdown, #22 Florida Southern got to four points first in a 4-1 win over #23 Emporia State.
The Hornets started doubles with a 6-1 win by Hachem Farem and
Roko Kacer at #3 before the Mocs came back to win at #2 and #1 doubles.
Alexis Mattenberger and
Gwendal Mazuay went to a tiebreaker before falling at the #1 spot.
Florida Southern went up 2-0 with a win at #3 singles before
Diego Calvo picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at the #4 spot. The Mocs then clinched the dual win with victories at #5 and #6. In a battle of nationally ranked players the Hornets 24

Anton Sarunic won the first set 6-3 before the Mocs 52
nd ranked Sam Frizelle won the second 7-5 and the #1 match was abandoned. Emporia State's
Mostafa Elbasnaly was leading 6-3, 2-6, 4-1 at #2 singles when the dual ended.
Both teams will begin MIAA play next week. The women play host to Newman on Tuesday, March 25 with the men set to take on the Jets on Saturday, March 29 with both duals taking place at the Kossover Family Tennis Center on the Emporia State campus.
