March 29, 2025-The #31 Emporia State men swept Newman to open up MIAA play on Saturday afternoon at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.

Hachem Fahem and
Roko Kacer got Emporia State off to a good start with a 6-2 win at #3 doubles. The Jets evened doubles with a 6-2 win at #1, making the #2 slot the deciding match for the point.
Anton Sarunic and
Luke West won 7-2 in the tiebreaker to give the Hornets the early 1-0 lead.

Alexis Mattenberger quickly gave Emporia State a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win at #3 singles followed by a 6-1, 6-4 win at #4 by
Diego Calvo. Sarunic showed why he is ranked #13 in the nation by coming from behind to post a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win at #1 singles to clinch the dual victory.Â
Mostafa Elbasnaly followed him with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 win at #2 singles. Kacer won 6-4, 6-1 at #5 and Fahem won 6-1, 6-2 at #6 to complete the sweep.

The Hornets improved to 9-3 on the year and 1-0 in the MIAA. They will be back in action on Friday, November 4 when they travel to #36 Neb.-Kearney. First serve from Harmon Park in Kearney, Neb. is set for 2:00 p.m.

The win snapped a five dual losing streak to the Jets dating back to 2018.
