ABOUT THE COACHES
MJ Baker is 6-3 in her first season with the Lady Hornets and is 57-49 in her fourth year as a head coach at a four year institution. She has won 337 games as a collegiate coach and comes to Emporia State after an eight year run at Eastern Florida State College. She went 183-58 with three conference championships and three trips to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament during her time. This is her first meeting with Bellevue.
James Benford is 6-6 in his first season as interim head coach at Bellevue. This is his first meeting with Emporia State.
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE BRUINS
Emporia State has won the two previous meetings between the two schools, 66-57 in 2023-24 and in White Auditorium. The Lady Hornets have won 29 straight games against NAIA competition dating back to a 58-51 loss to Harris-Stowe State on December 8, 2008.
LAST TIME AGAINST BELLEVUE
For the first time in their Division II era, the Lady Hornets started four freshman with two of them recording double-doubles in an 89-59 win over Bellevue. Emporia State jumped out to a 6-2 lead and never trailed on the way to the 30 point victory.
Gracie Gilpin led four Lady Hornets in double figures with 20 points including a four of nine effort from beyond the arc.
Jayla Cornelius scored 14 points with a career high ten assists while
Makenzie McDaniel scored 12 points with a career high 15 rebounds.
Macey Gandee rounded out the double figure scorers finishing with ten points.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Hornets built a 19 point lead in the third quarter on the way to a 74-64 win over Lincoln on Sunday afternoon in White Auditorium.
Gracie Gilpin led Emporia State with 21 points and hit five of eight three-pointers. She was joined in double figures by
Kaitlyn Sanders with 18 points.
Macey Gandee and
Micah Hannah each scored nine points with Gandee tying her career high with 11 rebounds.
Kaylin Noonan had a game high 13 boards for the Lady Hornets.
