November 5, 2025 – Emporia State and Washburn played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night from Yager Stadium in Topeka. The Hornets withstood a strong second half push by the Ichabods to complete their third straight shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match started slow for both teams, and Emporia State was able to generate the first shot attempt in the 13th minute, as
Aubrey Seltman forced a save from the Washburn goalkeeper. Over the remainder of the first 45, Washburn was able to create more chances, but the Hornets went into the halftime break with three shots on goal compared to just one for the Ichabods.
Following the break, Washburn began to build an advantage in the attack, forcing three saves by
Mackenzi Goen in the first 20 minutes of the second half. In the 69th minute, the Hornets recorded their first shot on target of the second half, as
Megan Kephart forced a save by the Ichabod goalkeeper.
Goen made two more saves over the next ten minutes, and after a final save in the 82
nd minute, she pushed her match total to seven on her way to a third consecutive shutout and sixth of the season.
The match was ended just short of the final buzzer due to an injury with the score deadlocked at 0-0.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Washburn held a 15-7 shot advantage over the Hornets, including a 10-3 edge in the second half.
Mackenzi Goen set a new season-high with seven saves and posted her sixth shutout of the season.
