Emporia State takes on William Jewell in the home opener from Slaymaker Court inside White Auditorium. The Hornets have won 22 of their last 25 home openers.

Emporia State went 1-1 at the Hillyard Classic. Four different players have scored in double figures. Five are averaging at least 8.0 points per game led by Andrew Pengel at 20.5 points. Chris Harris is averaging 12.0 points and a team best 7.0 rebounds per game.

William Jewell is 1-1 after opening the season at home against a pair of GLIAC opponents. Justice Sutton is averaging a team best 17.0 points per game

Tom Billeter is 502-293 in his 28th season as a head coach and is 12-19 in his second season at Emporia State after going 394-224 in 21 years at Augustana. With the Vikings he won the 2016 National Championship, went to nine NCAA Tournaments, won three regular season NSIC Championships, two NSIC Tourney Championships, and 18 consecutive winning seasons. He is 0-1 against William Jewell.
Chris McCabe is 79-91 in his seventh year at William Jewell. He is 1-3 against Emporia State.

LAST TIME VS WILLIAM JEWELL
William Jewell hit 15 three-pointers on the way to an 89-74 win over Emporia State in Liberty, Mo. The Hornets used a 7-0 run to pull within 28-25 with 9:19 left in the half.  A Malik Edwards three-pointer had Emporia State within 43-38 with 1:09 left but the Cardinals scored the final four points to take a 47-38 lead into the half. Jewell scored the first point of the second half but Emporia State responded with a 7-0 run to get within 48-45 with 17:43 remaining. The Cardinals took the lead to double digits with an 11-0 run to go up 64-48 with 10:52 left. The Hornets would get six stops during the run but could not convert on offense as they went 6:05 without a score.  Malik Edwards led Emporia State with 21 points while Karyiek Dixon scored ten.  Brayson Laube was the leading rebounder for the Hornets with seven boards to go with seven points and three assists.

SERIES HISTORY
Emporia State and William Jewell have split 16 previous matchups. The Hornets had won four straight prior to last year's Cardinal win in Liberty. This is just the fifth on campus meeting between the two schools since World War II. Emporia State won two games played in White Auditorium in 2005 and 2021 as well as one in Liberty in 2023 while Jewell won last year's contest in the Mabee Center.

The Hornets will take on Lincoln in a neutral site game in Kansas City, Mo. on Saturday. Tip-off from Mabee Fieldhouse on the campus of Avila University is set for 12 noon.
