0-0 Draw For Emporia State Soccer at Missouri Western

Hornets clinch spot in MIAA Tournament

October 31, 2025-It was scary at times but Emporia State pulled out a 0-0 draw at Missouri Western on Halloween to clinch a spot in the MIAA Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were outshot 7-2 in the first half as Mackenzie Goen recorded four saves in the first 45 mintues.
It was more even in the second half with Emporia State outshooting Western 7-6 after break.  The Hornets had several scoring opportunities in the final ten minutes.  They started with just under ten minutes when Megan Kephardt was unimpeded to the goal when Brookelyn Buttolph pulled her down from behind for a red card.
With under nine minutes left Kephardt took a shot from 25 yards out on the right side that hit the crossbar and bounced straight down but did not cross the line before getting cleared by a Griffon defender.  Then with just over two and a half minutes left Avery Zimmerman fed Ella Favot for a one on one with the keeper but her shot just missed the right post.

A LOOK AT THE STATS
The Hornets were outshot 13-9 on the night with a 5-3 disadvantage on goal.  Mackenzie Goen had five saves as she recorded her third shutout of the season and 12th of her career.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will wrap up Homecoming Weekend at Emporia State when they play host to Northwest Missouri on Sunday.  Kick-off from the ESU Pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
