Comeback Sparks Emporia State Volleyball to 13th Consecutive Win

Hornets rally from 2-1 down to beat Gorillas in five

October 3, 2025 – Emporia State volleyball used a late rally in the fourth set to propel themselves to a five-set win over Pittsburg State on Friday. With the win, the Hornets extended their winning streak to 13.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets struggled offensively from the start, hitting just .087 in set one as Pittsburg State rallied in the first to take a 1-0 lead with a 25-22 first frame win. In set two, the Hornets righted the ship, outhitting the Gorillas to take the second 25-21 to even the match. Emporia State's struggles returned in third, as the errors surpassed the kills, allowing Pittsburg State to build a 2-1 lead.
 
Set four started off in favor of the Gorillas, as Pittsburg State built a 12-5 lead over the Hornets midway through the set. Pittsburg State kept the advantage at 15-9 as they looked to close out the match. The Hornets found the answer however, putting together a 14-4 scoring run to take a 23-19 en route to a 25-22 win to force a decisive fifth frame.
 
Emporia State kept their momentum rolling into the fifth, scoring four straight to begin the set which forced a Pittsburg State timeout. Eventually the Gorillas rallied back to tie the match 8-8. The Hornets answered the call, scoring six of the next seven points before eventually clinching set five 15-11.
 
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State hit just .131 in the match, their second-lowest mark of the season. Lavra Krizanic led the attack for the Hornets, posting a career-high 24 kills in the match. Brailee Bogle tallied 33 assists, matching her season-high. Boglarka Rady tallied 33 digs on the back end, setting a new career-high for the senior from Hungary.
 
UP NEXT
Emporia State will be back home on Tuesday, October 7 as they host #10 Washburn at White Auditorium. First serve in the Turnpike Tussle is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and is the SAAC Big Game.
 
NOTES
The 13-match winning streak for Emporia State volleyball matches the longest winning streak for the program since the Hornets won 13 consecutive matches during the 2009 season.
