October 24, 2025 - Emporia State soccer matched their season-high with five goals in their win over Nebraska-Kearney on Friday afternoon. The Hornets had five different goalscorers in the match as they rolled to a 5-1 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match got off to a slow start, with the Hornets and Lopers trading possession through the first 20 minutes. Nebraska-Kearney recorded the first two shots, with both attempts forcing a save from
Mackenzi Goen. The breakthrough for the Hornets came in the 24th minute, as
Hailey Gancarz got in behind the Loper backline to put the Hornets ahead. Eight minutes later, the Hornets lead was doubled as
Megan Kephart scored on an assist by
Ella Favot. The Hornets took their 2-0 lead into the halftime break with a 7-4 advantage in shots.
Following the break, Emporia State took just 13 minutes to score another two goals, building a 4-0 lead. In the 56th minute,
Peyton Pipes scored after a loose ball in the box. Two minutes later in the 58th,
Ella Favot got the ball near midfield and raced towards goal and beat the Lopers goalkeeper, making the score 4-0.
The fifth goal for the Hornets came in the 80th minute, as
Amy Paver scored the first of her career to make the score 5-0. Nebraska-Kearney would break the shutout in the final minute, but Emporia State would seal their 5-1 win over the Lopers.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State had a 14-9 shot advantage, which included a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. The Hornets also had eight corners as opposed to just two for the Lopers.
Ella Favot and
Megan Kephart both had a goal and an assist, pushing their season total to 16 points.
Hailey Gancarz scored her fourth of the season and
Peyton Pipes notched her third, while
Amy Paver scored her first of the season and her career.
