October 13, 2025-After an four sack day Emporia State linebacker Landon Boss has been named the MIAA Football Defensive Player of the Week, presented by FieldTurf.

Boss turned in one of the most dominating games of the season with 11 tackles, four sacks, an interception and a forced fumble in the Hornets 31-24 win over Missouri Southern.  The Osage City, Kan. native's first sack came at the end of the first half on third down and forced the Lions into a missed 54 yard field goal attempt.  His interception came midway through the third quarter and led to an ESU touchdown to go up 28-7. As a team Emporia State held Missouri Southern to just 47 rushing yards.

The four sacks by Boss tied an Emporia State Division II era record that was first set by Patrick Cook in 1995 against Truman and tied by Gerard Clemons against Northwest Missouri in 1997. He is currently leading the MIAA in sacks, tackles for loss and solo tackles, ranking in the top ten of the nation in all three categories.

The Hornets are back in action on Saturday, October 25 when they travel to Central Oklahoma.  Kick-off from Richison Stadium in Edmond, Okla. is set for 7:00 p.m.
