October 10, 2025-Emporia State picked up their first win over Neb.-Kearney since 1988 in a 3-0 win over the #2 Lopers on Friday night in White Auditorium. It is the highest ranked win for Emporia State in school history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ater falling behind 3-1 in the first set, the Hornets rattled off five straight points to take the lead. The Lopers would took a 20-19 lead before Emporia State closed the set on a 6-2 run to take the opening set 25-22.
Delainee Dexter was four of five hitting and had four assists in the opening set.
After falling behind 1-0 to start the set, Emporia State scored seven straight points to take the lead for good. Neb.-Kearney would not get closer than five points the rest of the set and the Hornets ended the set by scoring the final seven points for a 25-11 win.
Lavra Krizanic had six kills on ten attempts as Emporia State hit .500 in the set while holding UNK to .057 for the set.
The Lopers jumped out to a 3-1 lead to start the third set but the Hornets responded with a 6-1 run to go up 7-4. UNK got within 12-10 before back to back kills from Dexter and
Nyia Anderson put the Hornets up 14-10. Neb.-Kearney would not get closer than three the rest of the night as Emporia State closed out the match with a 25-18 win.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State hit .361 as a team with 46 kills on 108 attacks with just seven errors. Neb.-Kearney was held to season lows of 33 kills on .136 hitting in the match.
Nyia Anderson and
Lavra Krizanic each turned in double-doubles for the Hornets with Anderson recording 12 kills and 16 digs while Krizanic had 12 kills and 11 digs.
Brailee Bogle and
Delainee Dexter each had 17 assists with Dexter adding nine kills.
UP NEXT
The Hornets play host to Fort Hays State on Saturday night. First serve from White Auditorium is set for 7:00 p.m. following the Hornet football game against Missouri Southern that afternoon.
NOTES:
This is the highest ranked win over an NCAA Division II team in Emporia State history.
The win snaps a 35 match losing streak by Emporia State to the Lopers.
This was the first win over Neb.-Kearney by Emporia State since 1988.
The win was the second this year over a ranked team, the first time Emporia State has recorded multiple wins over ranked teams since picking up six ranked wins in 2009.
