January 31, 2025-Emporia State opened up action at the WU Open with three provisional qualifying marks and one athlete in second place headed into Saturday's final day of the heptathlon.

Ty Anderson turned in two provisional marks on Friday. He started the day by qualifying for the next round of the men's 60m with a provisional qualifier of 6.81 in the 60m.Â
Kingsley Bennett ran a 6.88 to join him in the next round.Â

Israel Domeh both ran provisional qualifiers in the men's 200m. Anderson finished fifth with a personal best of 21.42 that ranks third all-time at Emporia State. Domeh ran 21.58 to place ninth.

Luke Grace is in second place in the heptathlon after four events. After running a 7.22 in the 60m in the first event of the day, he began moving up the charts. His long jump of 6.74m moved him up six spots to seventh overall after two events. He gained another spot with a mark of 11.54m in the shot up. He tied for the best bar in the high jump, clearing 1.97m to move into second place overall with 2914 points.

Lillian Zeigler had the top finish for the Emporia State women on Friday. She cleared 1.58m (5-2.25) to finish third in the open high jump.

Day two of the WU Open will begin on Saturday with the final day of the heptathlon getting underway at 10:00 a.m. followed by the women's pentathlon at 10:15 a.m. The rest of the running and field events are set to begin at 2:20 p.m. at the WU Indoor Athletic Facility in Topeka.
