January 24, 2025-The Emporia State men finished third and the women seventh in the team standings at the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational at Pittsburg State on Friday. The Hornet men came away with four provisional qualifiers and eight top five finishers while the women had the only individual champion for Emporia State.
 
Emmanuel Dukpe ran the third fastest time in Emporia State history in the men's 400m.  His time of 48.10 is a provisional qualifier and good enough for third on Friday. Israel Domeh placed fifth with a time of 48.46 in the men's 400m as well.
 
Max Neeley became the fourth Hornet to clear 16 feet in the men's pole vault.  His mark of 4.88m is a provisional qualifier and placed him third in the event in Pittsburg.
 
Connor Deters turned in another provisional qualifier in the men's shot put for Emporia State.  His mark of 16.50m (54-1.50) was good enough for second place and gave the Hornet men their best individual finish.
 
Ty Anderson ran a pair of provisional qualifying times on Friday.  He was clocked at 6.77 in the prelims and improved to 6.76 in the finals of the men's 60m to place fifth. He also placed fourth with a lead of 6.98m (22-10.75) in the men's long jump.
 
Trenden Collins and Jaxon Russell both cleared 1.94m (6-4.50) to tie for fourth in the men's high jump.
 
Madison Vermetten picked up the only event championship for Emporia State on Friday.  She threw 16.18m (53-1.00) to win the women's weight throw.
 
The other top five finish for the Emporia State women was Emma Seidl in the shot put at 13.04m (42-9.00) to place fourth.
 
The Hornets will head back to Topeka next weekend for the two day Washburn Open on January 31 and February 1 at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.
