January 17, 2025-The Hornets recorded six provisional qualifiers, three Emporia State all-time top five marks and two event championships at the Rust Buster Invitational on Friday at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.

Ty Anderson turned in two provisional qualifiers for the Hornet men. He started things with a runner-up finish of 6.79 in the 60m dash. He came back to join
Israel Domeh with a pair of qualifiers in the 200m. Domeh ran the third best 200m in Emporia State history at 21.57 to place third at the Rust Buster. Anderson was two spots behind him with a time of 21.61 that ranks fourth all-time for the Hornets.  They both moved in front of Colin Coleman who ran a 21.62 at the 2016 Sevigne Husker Invitational

Max Neeley cleared a provisional qualifying bar of 4.87m (15-11.75) to place fourth in the men's pole vault. He is tied with Caden Wolf's mark at the 2020 MIAA Championships for the fourth best mark in Emporia State history.

Connor Deters picked up the only individual championship for the Emporia State men on Friday. He threw a personal best of 16.73m (54-10.75) to capture the men's shot put title.

Mele Taula had the lone provisional qualifier for the Emporia State women. Her mark of 17.20m (56-5.25) was good enough for a runner up finish in the women's weight throw.

Isabella Davie cleared 1.55m (5-1.00) to win the women's open high jump for the only women's win for Emporia State.

The Hornets will be back in action next Friday at the Rumble in the Jungle at the Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kan.
