Hornets Drop Match Against Bronchos on Sunday

Emporia State falls to 3-1 against Central Oklahoma; Hornets outshoot Bronchos 12-10

September 29, 2024 – Emporia State fell 3-1 on Sunday afternoon against Central Oklahoma despite the Hornets recording two more shots than the Bronchos in the match.
 
The first shot of the match went to the Hornets, an attempt from 30 yards by Hadlie Lowe that went wide in the opening minute. Central Oklahoma scored their first goal in the fourth minutes, as a ball fell to the Bronchos outside the box resulting in a goal just past Mackenzi Goen at the near post.
 
Following a shot on goal from Megyn Mahloch in the seventh minute to force a save, the next opportunity in the match went to the Bronchos in the 11th minute.  Caleah Carter ripped a shot through traffic that glanced in off the far post past Goen to put Central Oklahoma ahead 2-0.
 
Over the final 30 minutes of the first half, the Hornets tallied three more shots, including one from Avery Zimmerman that hit the post but entered the halftime break still trailing 2-0.
 
In the second half, Emporia State quickly cut the deficit in half as Avery Zimmerman broke through with her first career goal in the 49th minute to make the score 2-1. Throughout the second period, the Hornets outshot the Bronchos 7-3 but were unable to even the score.
 
Central Oklahoma restored their two-goal advantage with a free kick in the 86th minute as the Hornets fell 3-1 in the match.
 
Emporia State tallied 12 shots compared to 10 for Central Oklahoma. The Hornets will be back in action with just one match next week, a trip to take on Fort Hays State on Sunday, October 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
