September 20, 2024 – Emporia State Volleyball posted a .268 hitting percentage on Friday as they bounced back with a 3-1 win over Henderson State on day two of the PSU Regional Challenge.
In the first set, the Hornets jumped out to an 11-4 lead which forced the Reddies to take a timeout. Emporia State maintained their sizable advantage following the timeout, eventually taking their largest lead of the set, an 18-9 lead following a
Rayishon Jackman kill. The Hornets finished off the set with a 25-16 win as Emporia State hit .412 in the set, their highest mark in a single set so far this season.
Emporia State again took an early lead in set two, this time leading 7-3. Henderson State trimmed the Hornet lead to 14-12 before rattling off six straight points. With the Reddies leading 21-17, Emporia State scored five straight, which included two kills from
Camilla Ossola, to take a 22-21 advantage. The Reddies fended off set point from the Hornets on three occasions before back-to-back kills from
McKenya Sorrells and
Brailee Bogle clinched the set 28-26.
The Hornets struggled in the third set, as they managed to hit just .067 while Henderson State hit .333. The Reddies led by as much as nine points in the set before clinching the third 25-17.
In the fourth, Emporia State bounced back. After trading points with the Reddies early in the set, the Hornets rallied and built a 16-10 lead. Emporia State maintained the advantage for the rest of the set, clinching the fourth 25-18 and the match 3-1 over Henderson State.
As a team, the Hornets hit .268 and finished with 61 kills, their second-highest total this season.
Rayishon Jackman led four Hornets in double-figures with 17 kills.
Camilla Ossola had 12 kills while
Weronika Wrzesinska and
McKenya Sorrells each had 11. This is the first time since October 11, 2021, against Fort Hays State that the Hornets have had four players reach double-figure kills.
Brailee Bogle recorded 49 assists, tying her four-set career high that was set earlier this season. Bogle and
Sydney Fiatte each had 11 digs while
Rayishon Jackman led the way with 16 of her own.
Mia Frisbie recorded four blocks in the match, the sixth time in eight matches she has totaled four or more total blocks.
Emporia State will be back in action on Saturday, September 21 against Missouri S&T to close out the PSU Regional Challenge. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
