September 21, 2024 – The PSU Regional Challenge wrapped up on Saturday with Emporia State rolling past Missouri S&T in straight sets.
Emporia State jumped out to a fast start in the first set, taking a 5-0 lead over the Miners. Following a rally by Missouri S&T to take a 7-6 lead, the Hornets returned the favor with six of the next seven points to take a 12-8 lead midway through the set. The Miners closed the gap again to 20-19 before Emporia State scored five of the final six points to win the first set 25-20.
In the second set, the Hornets played from behind for most of the set and the Miners held a 22-18 lead late in the set. An Emporia State service error gave Missouri S&T set point with a 24-23 lead, before Emporia State once again closed the set strong with four of the final five points to clinch the set 27-25.
The Hornets used the momentum from set two and took it into set three as they built a 17-7 lead over the Miners. Emporia State kept Missouri S&T at a distance for the remainder of the set as they clinched the sweep with a 25-15 win.
Emporia State hit .283 in the match and tallied 50 kills through three sets.
Rayishon Jackman recorded 17 kills while
Weronika Wrzesinska and
Camilla Ossola had 13 kills.
Brailee Bogle tallied 41 assists and recorded 13 digs, just behind
Sydney Fiatte who had a team-high 16 in the match.
Emporia State will be back in action on Friday, September 27 as they open MIAA action on the road against Missouri Western. First serve in St. Joseph, Missouri is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
