June 27, 2024-Emporia State Athletics posted a school record 3.45 department wide GPA during the spring of 2024 as all 13 programs (indoor and outdoor track & field are combined) maintained at least a 3.15 GPA for the semester. A total of 266 of the 346 student-athletes for Emporia State had a 3.0 GPA during the semester while 62 had a 4.0 GPA in the spring.

"Excellence is one of our core values within Hornet Athletics and our student-athletes continually show their drive to meet that goal," said Emporia State Senior Associate Athletic Director/SWA Colleen Mischke. "We are proud of our student-athletes and the diligence they show in their academic endeavors. We are also grateful for our campus partners who provide our student-athletes with outstanding academic support, including the advising center, ACES, Trio and the faculty members that take time to ensure the success of all students. Like many things in the athletic world – it takes a team to achieve Excellence."

This is the 31st straight semester the Hornets have posted at least a 3.0 department wide GPA and the 3.47 matches the fall of 2023 for the highest department wide GPA since Emporia State began keeping records of it in 2007. The 62 Hornets with a 4.00 GPA represent 26 different majors and every NCAA athletic program.

Women's Tennis topped the team GPA list with a combined 3.75 during the spring. Every player had at least a 3.00 GPA while three players recorded a 4.00 GPA during their semester of competition.

Softball had the second highest GPA among all teams at 3.74 with 19 of 21 players recording a 3.00 or better. A total of seven achieved a 4.00 GPA for the semester.

Football is the largest team on campus and their 91 spring players combined for a 3.26 team GPA. The Heritage Bowl champions had 11 Hornets record a 4.00 and 62 players posted at least a 3.00 GPA for the semester. Receiver Tyler Kahmann was named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-American, the eighth straight year the Hornets have had an Academic All-American.

The 21 members of the soccer squad combined for a 3.27 GPA in the fall while winning the MIAA Tournament and advancing to the NCAA Central Regional Championship Match for the second time in history. Five players posted a 4.00 GPA while 16 of the 21 were above 3.00 for the fall. For the second straight year Hornet soccer produced two CSC Academic All-Americans in Hannah Woolery and Mackenzie Dimarco.
Volleyball turned in a 3.62 team GPA for the fall with four players recording a 4.00 and every player on the spring roster posting at least a 3.00 GPA for the semester.

The women's track and field team is the largest women's team at Emporia State with 41 athletes. They were able to post a 3.56 combined GPA with 37 student-athletes getting at least a 3.00 and 14 student-athletes earning a 4.00 GPA. Cross country recorded a 3.49 team GPA.

Baseball had 28 of 37 players hit the 3.00 mark for GPA with five holding a 4.00 GPA for the fall.Â

The 13 members of the Lady Hornet basketball team recorded a 3.64 team GPA with two players earning a 4.00 and 12 going over the 3.00 mark.

The men's track & field team is the second largest squad on campus and they had a 3.24 team GPA. Fifty of 69 track student-athletes earned a 3.00 GPA with eight hitting the 4.00 mark. Two of the eight with 4.00's were in cross country and they had a team GPA of a 3.30.

Men's basketball came in with a 3.15 team GPA. The Hornets had six of 11 players reach a 3.00 GPA.

In addition to the athletic programs, Emporia State also reported the team GPAs of the student athletic trainers. The student trainers had a 3.59 group GPA for the semester.
