March 2, 2024-The Emporia State tennis teams were swept by Southern Arkansas on Saturday in Midlothian, Texas. The women fell 5-2 while the men lost 7-0.
#22 SAU Women 5, ESU 2
Emporia State took two points and three match wins from #22 Southern Arkansas.
Perla Conde and
Sheriden Wichman were able to salvage a 6-3 win at #3 doubles while SAU took the #1 and #2 positions to earn the point.
Anastasia Pesic got the first point of the dual for Emporia State at #5 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win while
Paige Stranghoner picked up a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) win at the #6 position.
SAU Men 7, ESU 0
The Hornets were shutout 7-0 by the Muleriders. Southern Arkansas won all three doubles matches with
Lleyton Fosha and
Elvin Selimovic finishing the closest at 7-5 in the #3 position.
Three of the singles matches went to a third set.
Anton Sarunic fell 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3 at #1, Diego Calvin lost 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (5) at #3, and
Hachem Fahem went down 3-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (10-5 at the #5 slot.
The next action for Emporia State will be on Friday, March 8 when the men travel to William Jewell. After that both teams will head to Orlando, Fla. for a series of duals over Spring Break.
