March 13, 2024-The Emporia State women rolled to a sweep of NCAA Division I Providence on Wednesday afternoon in Casselberry, Fla.
The Hornets won two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Lilie Bizourne and
Paige Stranghoner won 6-4 at #2 while
Perla Conde and
Sheriden Wichman won6-3 at the #3 position.
Emporia State then swept the singles competition against the Big East opponent. Four Hornets won in straight sets - Conde won 7-5, 6-4 at #1,
Giovanna Ferreira earned a 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 vicotry at #2 singles, Bizourne won 6-0, 6-0 at #3 and Wichman picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at the #5 position. Stranghoner won in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) at #4 singles and
Andrea Santiago won by default at #6 after claiming a 6-2 win in the first set.
The Hornets will be back action on Thursday when they take on another Division I foe, this time Lafatette College from the Patriot League. First serve at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. is set for 6:30 p.m. (ET).
