March 1, 2024-Both the Emporia State men and women started their weekend trip to Texas with wins over Western New Mexico on Friday afternoon.  The women won 7-0 while the men won 5-2.
Emporia State Women 7, Western New Mexico 0
The Mustangs were playing short handed and defaulted at #3 doubles allowing 
Lilie Bizouerne and 
Paige Stranghoner to give the Hornets a quick lead with a 6-1 win at #2 doubles.  
Perla Conde and 
Sheriden Wichman made sure of the point, winning 7-5 in a tiebreaker at #1 doubles.
The Hornets got straight set wins from Conde at #1, 
Giovanna Ferreira at #3, Bizouerne at #4 and 
Anastasia Pesic at #5 to take a 6-0 lead.  
Angelina Gnezdilova made it clean sweep with a 6-7 (6), 7-6 (4), 1-0 (10-3) win at #2 singles.
Emporia State 5, Western New Mexico 2
The Emporia State men also took advantage of a short handed Western New Mexico team that had to forfeit at #3 doubles and #6 singles.  
Sergio Vera and 
Diego Calvo earned the double point with a 6-4 win at #2.
Anton Sarunic and Calvo combined to drop just one game combined with Sarunic winning 6-0, 6-0 at #1 and Calvo getting a 6-1, 6-0 win at #4 singles to put Emporia State over the top.  The final point came from 
Hachem Fahem with a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7) win at #5 singles.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Southern Arkansas.  First serve is now scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in Midlothian, Texas.
