November 8, 2024 - Emporia State volleyball hit .286 in attack, their fourth-highest mark of the season, as they outlasted Fort Hays State in four sets from White Auditorium on Friday night.
Fort Hays State had early control in the first set, holding a 12-6 lead midway through the set as the Hornets already had four attack errors. The Hornets were undeterred however, promptly putting together a 12-4 scoring run to gain an 18-16 advantage. Emporia State did not relinquish their lead for the remainder of the set, taking a 1-0 lead in the match with 25-22 win.Â
Set two was back-and-forth throughout, featuring eight ties and three lead changes. Emporia State tied the match late at 20-20 after a pair of kills from
Weronika Wrzesinska, but were outscored 5-1 to end the set, as Fort Hays State tied the match 1-1.
The third set was more of the same between the Hornets and Tigers as neither team led by more than three points throughout the frame. Emporia State held set point twice in the set before two straight Fort Hays State points gave the Tigers the edge at 26-25. The Hornets rallied with kills from Wrzesinska and
Camilla Ossola to regain the lead. After a service error to even the set at 27-27, Ossola came right back with two more kills, clinching set three 29-27 and giving Emporia State a 2-1 lead in the match.
Emporia State carried their momentum from the end of set three over to set four, as they built a 10-5 lead to force a Tigers timeout. Following the timeout, Fort Hays State climbed back, trimming the lead to 11-9 before the Hornets put together 6-2 scoring run, building a 17-11 advantage. The Hornets kept the Tigers at bay, leading by no less than four for the remainder of the set as they finished the match with a 25-19 win in set four.
Weronika Wrzesinska and
Camilla Ossola combined for 40 kills with 22 and 18 respectively.
Rayishon Jackman transitioned from libero to outside hitter over the final two sets and tallied 12 kills.
Brailee Bogle had 53 assists, her third time with more than 50 this season. As a team, the Hornets had a season-high 69 assists in the match.
Emporia State will be back in action on Saturday, November 9 as they host Nebraska-Kearney on Senior Day from White Auditorium. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
