1-0 Road Win for Emporia State Soccer over Northwest Missouri

Lowe records game-winning free-kick; Hornets run unbeaten streak against Bearcats to 11 matches

November 3, 2024 – Emporia State soccer traveled to Maryville and picked up a crucial 1-0 win over Northwest Missouri as they got a free kick goal from Hadlie Lowe in the second half.
 
Throughout most of the first half, the Hornets were forced to withstand a flurry of shots from the Bearcats as Northwest Missouri outshot Emporia State 11-4 in the first period, forcing four saves from Mackenzi Goen. The Hornets had two of their four attempts on goal, which were both saved by goalkeeper Lily Ellis.
 
Following the halftime break, Emporia State was the first to record a shot, as Megyn Mahloch forced a save from Ellis in the first minute of the second half. Northwest Missouri resumed their offensive pressure, as the Bearcats tallied a flurry of shots over the next 20 minutes before the Hornets were given a prime change to break the scoreless tie in the 71st minute.
 
The Bearcats gave away a free kick at the top of their box and Hadlie Lowe stepped up to take the opportunity. Lowe's free kick with high and down the middle to beat Ellis, giving Emporia State the 1-0 lead.
 
Emporia State kept the Bearcats from recording another shot in the final 19 minutes and held on for the 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon.
 
Hadlie Lowe's goal was her fifth of the season and her third in the past five matches. Mackenzi Goen recorded her fourth shutout of the season, tallying six saves in the match.
 
The Hornets will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, November 6 as they host Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle at the ESU Pitch. Kickoff between the Hornets and Ichabods is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
