November 6, 2024 - Emporia State generated just eight shots against Washburn on Wednesday afternoon, and conceded a goal in either half as the Hornets fell to the Ichabods 2-0 in the regular season final from the ESU Pitch.
Despite much of the control coming from the Ichabods in the first half, the Hornets recorded the first two shots of the match, getting attempts from
Sade Lee and
Megyn Mahloch inside the first 11 minutes. Washburn's breakthrough to take the lead came in the 21st minute, as a shot near the top of the box from Viviana Soto-Herrera found the far post past the dive of
Mackenzi Goen. Emporia State tallied just two more shots of the final 24 minutes, with both being off-target, as the Hornets entered the break trailing the Ichabods 1-0.Â
In the first half, Washburn had a 5-4 shots advantage and 2-0 advantage on corner kicks.Â
Following the break, the Ichabods resumed control of the match, recording six shots through the first 20 minutes of the half, eventually leading to the second goal of the match. Emporia State conceded a corner and after the free-kick, a loose ball in the box fell to Mackinly Rohn for Washburn who doubled the lead for the visitors in the 65th. The Hornets generated four shots of the final 25 minutes, but were unable to really threaten the Ichabods, eventually falling 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
Emporia State was out shot 15-8 in the match and were unable to record a corner kick in the match.Â
