November 10, 2024-Emproia State scored the first points of the game on an offensive rebound and never trailed in an 83-69 win over Northern State on Sunday at the Hillyard Classic in St. Joseph, Mo.

Parker Day got the Hornets on the board with a put back 20 seconds into the game. A three-pointer from Ethan Russell pulled the Wolves within a point when Emporia State went on a 7-0 run to go up 15-7 with 15:42 left on a three-pointer from Malik Edwards. The Hornets would steadily pull away over the next nine minutes, going up 30-18 on a Donald Coats II free throw at the 6:54 mark. Northern State closed to within five at 36-31 with 2:09 left but Emporia State closed the half on a 6-1 run to take a ten point lead into the break.

The Hornets pushed the lead to 51-36 at the first media timeout of the second half. The Wolves closed the gap back to six at 54-48 with 11:28 remaining on a three-pointer by Kwat Abdelkarim. Emporia State answered with a 6-0 run getting buckets from three different people to push the lead back into double digits. Coats started the run with a score inside followed by a pull up jumper from Malik Edwards before
Devin Conley ended the run with a fast break jumper with 8:53 left following a steal by Edwards. Northern State would not get closer than nine points the rest of the game and would eventually go up by 20 points at 78-58 with 3:27 left.

The Hornets put four players in double figures led by
Dallas Bear's 18 points and four made three-pointers.Â
Parker Day had a double-double with 12 points on six of ten shooting and ten rebounds. They were joined in double figures by Malik Edwards with 16 and
Brayson Laube with 13 points.Â
Arhman Lewis had six points, eight assists, six rebounds and two steals for the Hornets.

Emporia State will be back in action on Wednesday, November 13 when they travel to Truman State. Tip-off from Pershing Arena in Kirksville, Mo. is set for 6:00 p.m.
