Hornet men drop road game at Truman State

Emporia State falls 91-79 in Kirksville

November 13, 2024-Emporia State jumped out to a 17-4 lead to open the game but Truman State would shoot 75% from the field in the final 14 minutes of the first half on the way to a 91-79 Bulldog victory on Wednesday night in Kirksville, Mo.
 
Malik Edwards and Brayson Laube combined to score 12 of the first 17 points for Emporia State as the Hornets led 17-4 with 14:15 left in the first half.  With the score 19-6 the Bulldogs went on an 11-0 run to close within 19-17 before Donald Coats III scored to break the run with 10:48 left in the half.  Truman used a 10-2 run to go up 38-33 with 2:50 left in the half. Truman State hit three consecutive three-pointers to go up 50-39 before Parker Day scored at the buzzer to bring the deficit to under ten at the break.
 
The teams played even through the media timeout of the second half as an Arhman Lewis three pointer pulled the Hornets within 60-54 with 15:33 left.  The Bulldogs then went on a 10-0 run to take a 70-54 lead with 12:08 remaining.  The lead grew to 19 points with 3:13 left before the Hornets closed the game on a 10-3 run for the final score of 91-79.
 
Four of the five Emporia State starters scored in double figures led by Malik Edwards with 19 points.  Brayson Laube scored 17 while Arhman Lewis added 12 and Donald Coats chipped in 11 points. 
 
The Hornets are back in action Tuesday, November 19 as they continue their season opening road trip at William Jewell.  Tip-off in Liberty, Mo. is set for 7:30 p.m.
