October 4, 2024 – Emporia State hit .320 against Pittsburg State on Friday night, highlighted by a 29-kill match from
Weronika Wrzesinska to lead the Hornets to a sweep against the Gorillas.
In the first set, the Hornets got off to a slow start as the Gorillas took the first five points of the match. Emporia State stormed back to tie the set at 7-7 but eventually found themselves behind 18-16 late in the set. After scoring three of the next four to tie the set 19-19, the Hornets traded points with the Gorillas before eventually winning the first set 27-25.
Emporia State jumped in front of Pittsburg State in the second set and after a tie at 1-1, the Hornets pulled away to eventually take the set 25-16. The Hornets hit .412 in the second frame, with four players tallying three or more kills.
The Hornets kept the Gorillas at a distance through most of the third set before a late push from the visitors trimmed the Emporia State lead to 23-22.
Weronika Wrzesinska capped off her career night with consecutive kills as the Hornets took the set 25-22 to sweep the match on Friday night at White Auditorium.
Emporia State's .320 hitting percentage in the match was a season-high and
Weronika Wrzesinska led the way with 29 kills and a .463 percentage.
Rayishon Jackman had eight kills while
McKenya Sorrells and
Camilla Ossola both had six of their own.
Brailee Bogle tallied 40 assists, her third time this season with 40 or more assists in a three-set match.
Wrzesinska's 29 kills are the most in the nation this season in a three-set match.
Emporia State will return to action on Saturday, October 5 as they host Newman. First serve against the Jets is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
