TRIP TO TAKE ON THE TIGERS
Emporia State has just one match this week, a roadtrip to western Kansas for a matchup against Fort Hays State. The Hornets and Tigers have met eight times in the past three seasons with four resulting in a tie and with two more decided by just one goal.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hornets closed out a three-match home stand last weekend with their first two MIAA matches against Newman and Central Oklahoma. Emporia State defeated the Jets 2-0 on Friday, featuring goals from Megan Kephart and Megan Jeremias. The Hornets fell 3-1 to the Bronchos despite out shooting the visitors in the match.

Jane Grimley-Gunn is in her first season at Emporia State and is 3-3-1 through the first seven matches this season and has a 1-1-0 record in the MIAA.

Jane Grimley-Gunn is in year one at the helm of Hornet Soccer and is 3-3-1 with a roster that is balanced between 13 returners and 13 newcomers for 2024. Grimley-Gunn spent the previous two seasons as the head coach for Missouri S&T's women's program. In 2023, the Miners had their longest unbeaten streak to start a season since 1997 and made a trip to the GLVC Tournament for the fourth time in school history. She was 1-0-1 against the MIAA in her two years, defeating Missouri Southern and playing to a 0-0 tie against Washburn. Prior to her time in Rolla, Grimley-Gunn was the associate head coach at her alma mater Goldey-Beacom College for four years. In those four seasons, the Lightning went 48-24-4. She was also named a recipient of the "30 under 30" award by the United Soccer Coaches in 2019.
A LOOK AT THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 3-3-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in the MIAA through the first week of conference play. The Hornets have ten goals this season with six different players recording a goal so far. Megan Jeremias has a team-high three goals and six points while Abby Bachman has two goals and assist for five points of her own. Megan Kephart, Ella Ruliffson, Megyn Mahloch and Avery Zimmerman each have one goal of their own while Ruliffson, Kephart and Sade Lee have an assist through the first seven matches. In goal, Mackenzi Goen has started all seven matches and has 611 minutes between the posts. She has 36 saves and two shutouts so far this season.
ABOUT THE TIGERS
Fort Hays State is 5-1-2 this season and 2-0-0 in MIAA play. The Tigers have won 29 matches since the beginning of 2021 and have made the NCAA Tournament each of the last two seasons. This season, Fort Hays State is outscoring opponents 12-4 this season and have held opponents scoreless through their last four matches. Taylor Hill, Allison Worley and Britney Arneson each have two goals on the season while six more Tigers players have scored one through their first eight matches. In goal, Mackenzie Caldwell has played all 720 minutes through eight matches and has 43 saves and five shutouts on the season.
